Why branding is the bedrock of franchising.

Franchise Podcast Rogue Marketing

Tomorrow is the start of The National Franchise Exhibition 2023 at the NEC - National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, the premier franchise exhibition in the UK supported by the The BFA.

The event on Friday and Saturday the 6th and 7th October is the perfect time to discover inspiring franchise opportunities and insights from all business sectors, including food & drink, fitness, low-cost, care & property.

It’s an opportunity to meet the teams behind brands including Anytime FitnessGetirRegusPuccino's Coffee BarVisiting AngelsMcDonald'sApollo BlindsBlack Sheep CoffeeCaremark LtdchaiiwalaClarity HomecareCo-opCosta CoffeeCrayola Imagine Arts AcademyDomino'sDuck DonutsFunk Coffee Hometyre Remax Property Solutions (UK) Seoul Bird The Alley UK Wimpy Restaurants Wienerschnitzel Walfinch Truedan aka Jenjudan 珍煮丹 Subway UK & Ireland Putt Putt Noodle Right at Home UK & many more.

If you are a potential Franchisee this is a great opportunity to find the right franchise to suit your budget, interests & ambitions.

For brands it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness, recruit new Franchisees, learn from experts in the sector and network with other likeminded folk. If you are new to the game, as a potential Franchisor you’ll learn whether your business is suitable for franchising and what to expect along the way from experts just like Ashtons Franchise Consulting.

According to the most recent survey from the BFA and NatWest, there are more than 900 franchisor brands operating in the UK, with just over 44,000 franchisee outlets between them. The sector turns over around £15.1bn a year.

In his article "Ready to franchise your own business" in the Business Franchise Magazine and Show Guide, Phil Mowat QFP from Ashtons confirms successful franchising requires a standout brand. It’s the ‘bedrock of a franchise’ says Phil.

So how do brands protect their bedrock, when putting it into the hands of new franchisees?

It's something Phil and I discuss in our recent Talking Local marketing podcast on Franchising where we are also joined by Dominic Le Claire from Martech Consultancy On Locally.

Dom says “brands invest a tremendous amount of time and money in creating their brand, their messaging, their voice. Then they put it in the hands of, maybe a dozen, maybe hundreds, maybe thousands, of distributed entities and users. So, if you don’t have those kind of controls and those kind of methods in place, you can see a tonne of rogue marketing at that local level.”

Maintaining and activating your franchise brand locally can be a challenge but it’s one We Are Acuity have been overcoming for many years.
